History :

The Civic Center opened in July of 1988 with comedian Jerry Clower playing to a packed house. He was such a hit that he returned each year until his recent passing, always finding an appreciative Stanly County audience. Throughout the years the center has hosted many other various events including concerts presented by the Stanly County Community Concert Association, musicals and drama by the Uwharrie Players, southern gospel and bluegrass concerts by local and regional promoters and church related events such as “The Masters Plan” presented each Easter season by First Assembly Church. The Stanly County Arts Council presents many programs by regional and nationally known artists including the North Carolina Symphony for both the Stanly County Schools and the general public. The school system also utilizes the facility for graduation ceremonies for the four local high schools.
