The Springfield Symphony Orchestra (SSO) was founded in 1943 by Edwin Juergens, William Minnick and William Fiedler, the organizations's first conductor. The first complete concert was performed in 1944 at Central Methodist Church in Springfield.

Celebrating its 62nd Anniversary this season, the SSO currently produces and presents more than 90 events each season, including a six-concert subscription series, small ensemble visits to area schools, Concerts for Young People, the Springfield Youth Symphony and Springfield Youth String Ensemble, free outreach performances and two fundraisers.

The SSO's mission is to educate, entertain and enhance the lives of people in and around Clark County through performance of live symphonic music.
