About the Museum
Visitors to the State Agricultural Heritage Museum will understand the important role of agriculture in South Dakota's past, present and future.
Our exhibits include tractors and farm equipment, an original 1882 homestead claim shack, and a recreated 1915 farmhouse. Abundant historic photographs enhance the understanding of South Dakota's rural qualities.
The museum offers a variety of programs including book signings, exhibit openings, and lecture series. Group tours are available - reservations are required. Special members events are scheduled throughout the year.
The museum's extensive collections offer opportunities for researchers to learn more about South Dakota history, agricultural technology and rural life. The Beckman Archive is a comprehensive collection of tractor and machinery manuals. The museum has an extensive photo and graphic archive in addition to the South Dakota history library.
The museum's holdings include information about Rammed Earth Building Construction, restricted and an appointment is mandatory. The museum staff would be happy to provide a list of specific materials available.
