About Us:

The Somerset Valley YMCA had its start in the Somerville area in August 1873, when a group of 150 local citizens felt the need for a program providing recreational and educational guidance to the young people of both sexes living in the area. Meeting dates were established, and the "Y" found a home in one of the local churches. Costs were very nominal in the beginning, and the Y used borrowed facilities to stage its programs. The YMCA progressed for about 25 years leading up to the turn of the century, when the Y's offices, recreational hall, and meeting rooms were housed in the old Post Office.

In 1957, land was purchased and a building erected and furnished, signaling the beginning of the Somerset Valley YMCA's Somerville facility. In 1965, a new expansion began, including more physical facilities, an expanded swimming facility, office space, and conversion of the All-Purpose Room to new uses. In April of 1969, the renovation and expansion was completed, and the facilities were-formally opened for use.

More recently, the Somerville facility has undergone a major transformation, with the addition of a full service Child Care Center, and a newly modernized Adult Wellness Center.
