Sleepy Hollow State Park contains over 2,600 acres including a river winding its way through the woods, fields and trails. Lake Ovid nestled in the middle of it all was developed by damming the Little Maple River and covers 410-acres. The park offers year-round opportunity for recreation.
Boat Rental: Canoes, kayaks and stand-up paddleboards are available for rent at the campground office. Rentals are available from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend at a daily rate of $25. For more information, contact the park at 517-651-6217.
Cross Country Ski: All trails in Sleepy Hollow State Park are open to cross country skiing.
Equestrian: There are 12.9 miles of horse trails, open to visitors who trailer their horses in for the day. Horses are allowed on horse trails only. The bridle trails are maintained and managed by the Sleepy Hollow Trail Riders Association.
Lake Ovid has proven to be a very popular fishing lake with a wide variety of fish such as muskie, largemouth and smallmouth bass, bluegill, sunfish, crappie, rock bass, perch, catfish and bullheads. Two fishing piers are available as well as access to various shore fishing sites.
Hiking: There are more than 11 miles of hiking trails that take you through prairie grasses, hardwood forest and stands of pine trees.
Hunting: Park lands are open to hunting and trapping during the appropriate seasons. The hunting is excellent for ducks, deer, rabbit and squirrel. Turkey, woodcock, pheasant, quail and grouse are also found in the park.
Mountain Biking: More than 11 miles of trails are open for biking, mountain biking and hiking.
Pet-Friendly Area: A section of pet-friendly shoreline is available 100 yards north of the Lake Ovid swimming beach. Follow ‘Dog Beach’ signs from the main beach parking lot. Pets must be on a six foot leash (in and out of the water) and under an owner’s/handler’s immediate control at all times. Pet waste bags are provided for your use; dispose of pet waste in nearby trash receptacles. For more information, please contact the park.
Snowmobiling: Snowmobiling is allowed in the west end of the park when there is at least four inches of snow on the ground. Snowmobiles are prohibited on cross-country ski trails and must have a current registration.
