Mission:
The Mission of the Sheridan County Historical Society Museum is to preserve and share our rich historical and cultural heritage of the Sheridan County Area with present and future generations in order to promote a greater understanding of the American West.
History:
The Museum has its beginnings with the Sheridan County Historical Society. The SCHS, founded in 1960, is an affiliate of the Wyoming State Historical Society. Dedicated to the historical preservation and appreciation, the SCHS maintained the Trail End Historic Mansion throughout the 1970s and early 1980s. After gifting the building and grounds to the State of Wyoming, the SCHS partnered with the Sheridan Heritage Center at the Sheridan Inn to develop exhibits and display artifacts. This partnership continued from the early 1990s until the opening of the Sheridan County Museum in 2004.
The Sheridan County Museum began as a project to catalog and preserve the SCHS’s collection of historical objects, archival materials, and photographs. In 2004 the SCM celebrated its public opening in a small house adjacent to the Fulmer Public Library in Sheridan. The Museum quickly outgrew its building. With a groundswell of community support the SCHS purchase the former Bubba’s Bar-B-Que building and converted it into a museum. The SCM opened in its new location in July 2006.History:
