Highlighting Spokane

SFCC International Film Festival

924 West Garland Avenue
Spokane, WA 99205

In 2005, through the work of French Instructor Elodie Goodman and film instructor Mary Hyatt, SFCC was awarded a grant from the French government to put on a French Film Festival, which was held in the Bing Crosby Theater (then known as The Met). The second year the festival expanded to include films from other countries and moved to The Garland Theatre to facilitate parking. When funding was cut in 2008 it seemed that the festival might be cancelled, but Spanish Instructor Bonnie Brunt brought together a group of faculty and students who were committed to find a way to continue. To this day the festival is largely funded by student groups; major contributors over the years have been the French Club, the Spanish Club, the Alliance Club, with support from many others. Each year since 2005, the festival has continued to bring award-winning films from around the world to Spokane and has introduced thousands of students to the world of International Cinema.
