About the San Francisco Museum And Historical Society:

The San Francisco Museum and Historical Society is a non-profit organization focused on preserving, interpreting, and presenting the historical heritage of San Francisco, from its variegated natural history to its lively human history.

The Society fulfills these objectives through a broad spectrum of exhibitions, programs and special events, and The Argonaut, our beautiful journal featuring photographs and in-depth reviews of our city's history. The Society currently has exhibitions at Pier 45 and City Hall.

The Society was organized in February 2002, following the merger of the San Francisco Historical Society and the Museum of the City of San Francisco.

Mission:

The mission of the San Francisco Museum and Historical Society is to serve as the focal point for discovering the history of San Francisco, including the creation and ongoing operation of a world class museum in San Francisco's Old Mint.
