Salty Shakespeare

Salty Shakespeare is a group of actors dedicated to making Shakespeare a part of everyday life----taking the greatest poet who ever lived out of the darkness and confines of the theatre into the streets. 

The way it was done in the first place.

Salty Shakespeare is not interested in occupying a space or selling expensive tickets. Our rehearsal hall is a park or a street corner. Our actors will erupt anywhere in L.A. with a scene from HAMLET or HENRY V or CORIOLANUS. National Public Radio covered us doing 1 minute and 50 seconds of HAMLET in a crowded elevator in downtown L.A. for Weekend Edition. An L.A. Times reporter, interviewing me as Artistic Director in Starbucks one day was astonished and delighted to suddenly hear a cellphone conversation at the next table. It was a Salty Shakespeare actor railing on his phone to enemies in HENRY IV, Part 1. Romeo and Juliet have shouted to each other from the balcony of a mall in east L.A. And the four lovesick teenagers from MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM have wept and moaned at each other on the Santa Monica Pier. Puck has even spoken the Bard's beautiful poetry on that same pier with a Boa Constrictor around her neck!! You can bet crowds gathered.
