The 18-hole Rock Creek Golf Course opened in 1924. The course is located on the northern tip of Rock Creek Park, the second largest urban park on the East Coast. The course was re-routed in the 1950’s to accommodate the construction and expansion of local roadways, reducing the area allotted for the course by more than 25%. The subsequent course remained at 18-holes but with a much more compressed footprint.
Rock Creek Golf Course provides an affordable and accessible facility for park visitors of all ages. While being the home to many beginning golfers, Rock Creek’s tight fairways and dramatic elevation changes make it a challenging and enjoyable course for the experienced golfer as well. Rock Creek's short layout of par 3's and 4's might not look all that difficult on a scorecard but this course has bite. The front nine consists of short par 4's and medium to long par 3's; just enough to get you warmed up for the back. The back nine is a true test of accuracy and perseverance. Dense woods on either side of the narrow fairways will show how much confidence you have in your driver. Postage stamp greens and large elevation changes combine to force risk/reward decisions on every shot.
Rock Creek Golf Course is also known for the many species of plant and animal wildlife that can be found there, including deer, raccoon, foxes, hawks and even the occasional coyote. Rock Creek has been recognized by Audubon International for its environmentally friendly maintenance practices. Rock Creek Golf Course was named one of Golf Digest’s Best Places to Play in 2008.
A full-service golf facility, Rock Creek G.C. offers affordable and accessible recreation to local residents and tourists in a unique setting.
