Open: Year-round
Robller Vineyard is a family operated winery on a beautiful hillside in the heart of Missouri Wine Country. The winery is located within a mile to the south of the Missouri River in the small town of New Haven. Robert and Lois Mueller along with their children have grown what began as a backyard hobby into a formidable estate styled winery.Started from the ground up in 1988 by planting the first varieties, each situated in different blocks taking advantage of the south facing slope and full east west sun. The site was an ideal location to grow grapes (land orientation, elevation, gentle slope, rich soil, good water). While we purchased grapes for the first several vintages, we have come to understand how perfect the site really is for growing exceptional quality grapes.
The site history dates back to the early 1800's as part of the immigrant movement with the homestead that was built in 1821. This was fifteen years prior to the founding of Miller's Landing, which began as riverboat stop on the Missouri River. The founder (Phillip Miller) operated a wood yard on the river to fuel the steamboat trade. Arrival of the Union Pacific railroad in the 1850's brought increased commerce and economic activity to the area. In 1856, town fathers changed the name from Miller's Landing to "New Haven", reflecting the growth of the town from its origins as a steamboat stop.Over the past 200 years the land was used in a typical regional fashion of growing row crops, raising livestock and fruit orchards as a self sustaining way of life. We maintain this ideal in the sense that the wines we produce are made from the grapes of our vineyard. Additionally, the land not used for vineyard is kept in grassland to maintain the soil while limiting exposure of the vineyard to typical chemicals used in modern farming practices.
Currently we have about 18 acres under vine with a mix of mainly French Hybrids including; Chambourcin, St. Vincent, Villard Noir, Vidal and Vignoles as well as Traminette, Seyval and of course Norton. As our vineyard continues to mature we see very interesting qualities emerging year over year in each of the varieties. This has allowed us to create a distinctive house style inspired by European winemaking traditions.Originally from St Louis, our family ended up in New Haven, reliving our German heritage and upbringing. While our earlier generations were involved in the making of beer as a livelihood, winemaking at home has always been a part of our family culture. Our name is a contraction of Robert Mueller. Our logo icon R-logo uses a print type called Agincourt which was a popular type style used in the early days of the Gutenberg Press.
Winegrowing is not just our livelihood, rather an expression of our passion and dedication to the land and our culture. The greatest reward comes from sharing what we do and who we are. In honor of our heritage we invite you and your family to enjoy the fruits of our labor and the stunning view in a family oriented atmosphere. From our hillside to your glass, enjoy
