The Retreat Farm in Brattleboro, Vermont. We are an historical site and a recreation center that offers much to the community and visitors.

The farm owns 475 acres of land and operates a popular petting farm on a seasonal basis.

The Retreat Farm is unique because of its architecture, function and location. The land needs of the farm allow it to keep its meadows open for agricultural and recreational purposes. Its history of being part of a large psychiatric hospital is intriguing. A visit to the working jewel will result in a greater understanding and appreciation of a rural way of life.

The Retreat Farm was purchased by The Windham Foundation in May 2001. Part of the Windham Foundation's mission is to preserve land and encourage proper land use in Vermont. As a result, there is an ongoing rehabilitation project that will restore the grandeur of the structures and the ongoing preservation of the 475 acres of land.

Grafton Village CheeseWe are next door to sister company Grafton Village Cheese Co. which includes a production facility and a wine and cheese shop. This new creamery and store live in concert with the existing historical buildings, land, Retreat recreational trails and the petting farm.
