Our History:
Ray D. Corbett earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Austin College in 1951 and his master's degree in Education in January 1958 from Southwest Texas State College.
He was a teacher and coach in various school districts in Texas for 10 years before making his home in this community. Ray Corbett began his career in SCUCISD in 1961. He served as principal of O'Henry Junior High School for 20 years. He spent the last two years of his career with the district as the Director of Auxilary Services.
Ray Corbett's ill health forced his retirement in 1984 after 24 years of service to this community and its youth.
On November 14, 1984, the school board voted unanimously to honor his years of service by changing the name of O'Henry Junior High School to Ray D. Corbett Junior High School.
Mission Statement:
Corbett Junior High will provide a safe and positive learning environment through teamwork and relationship building. Our goal is to challenge and motivate life-long learners to become responsible citizens.
