The Point Bonita Y Outdoor Education and Wellness program brings students and their teachers to spend 1-5 days exploring the Headlands.
We address the mind and intellectual wellness though hands on experiences in nature where we bring science to LIFE! From tide pooling, to pond studies to plant walks, we help kids discover that science is more than what you read about in a book! We inspire wonder and curiosity and the desire to learn more about the world around them- while meeting state standards.
We help teach and promote physical wellness through hiking, games, movement and nutrition lessons. We teach students to care about their bodies and give them tools that they can bring back home. We give kids a chance to leave their cares at home and re-invent themselves. Our program gives time for reflection and time to just be in nature and in community.
We increase social wellness by building a stronger community. Students learn to speak their needs, to listen to others and to trust each other. The friendships and class bonds that are formed can last a lifetime.
Students leave our program feeling empowered to make positive change in their communities which in turn creates positive feedback for the students and increases self- esteem and sense of empowerment. We give students the tools they need to continue making positive choices for their own health and the health of the planet.
