History:

The Pittsburg Community Theatre started as an Adult Education class lead by Betty Brown. From September, 1973, until April, 1978, Betty ran the classes and brought various types of production to the delight of audience goers. However, Proposition 13 forced caps on all but academic courses offered by the school and so the Adult Education class was cut from the curriculum.
Six members struggled to continue to present plays while applying for non-profit status with Federal and State authorities. Then on April 9, 1979, PCT was incorporated as a non-profit corporation in the State of California.
Since that time PCT has performed 4 shows per season: a drama, a comedy, a musical and a children's theatre production. PCT also provides free half-hour entertainment for groups, clubs and the City of Pittsburg. Additionally, PCT provides a yearly scholarship for high school seniors. Members of PCT have volunteered their time and the group has donated equipment to the local high and elementary schools to supplement the performing arts education.
