Mission:
The Mission of the Pioneer Museum is to share the cultural panorama of the Texas Hill Country through experiences that enlighten and inspire.
About Us:
The Gillespie County Historical Society (GCHS) was formed in 1935 to preserve and share the history of Fredericksburg, Gillespie County, and the surrounding Texas Hill Country.
Willkommen to the Pioneer Museum, owned and operatedby the Gillespie County Historical Society (GCHS), that celebrates a unique Texas Hill Country community created by early settlers for future generations.
The first Pioneer Museum site was the Vereins Kirche, which is located in the 100 block of West Main Street. The Vereins Kirche is a 1935 replica of the original structure and is an extension of the Pioneer Museum.
In 1955, the Society bought the historic Kammlah house, store, and property, which included a smokehouse and barn. All are at the Pioneer Museum Complex site.
Immerse yourself in the life of Fredericksburg through exploration of historic structures, authentic objects, photographs, and much more.
The GCHS and Pioneer Museum are working together to create a shared narrative of Fredericksburg, Texas, history. The GCHS manages historical collections from donors. The Pioneer Museum complex brings the collections to life. Visitors can walk through "real life" early Texas structures and view exhibits demonstrating early Texas family life, education, professions, and culture.
Located on three acres, the museum complex is landscaped with plants native to the Texas Hill Country. Frequent activities and educational programs enliven the visitor experience for all ages.
With other purchases and donations by the Society, the Pioneer Museum site has grown to encompass three acres and 11 buildings, nine buildings of which are historic structures included on a tour of the Pioneer Museum grounds. The Society has over 300,000 artifacts within its rich and diverse collection.
