Pinnacle Mountain is a day-use park dedicated to environmental education, outdoor recreation, and preservation. Located just west of Little Rock, this natural environment of 2,356 acres was set aside in 1977 as Arkansas's first state park adjoining a major metropolitan area. The park features a diversity of natural habitat, from high upland peaks to bottomlands along the Big Maumelle River and Little Maumelle River, for park visitors to experience. Park interpreters and volunteers help visitors and students understand man's relationship to the environment. Special interpretive programs conducted by our helpful park interpreters can be scheduled by contacting the park.

For those wanting to get away from an urban setting without travelling far, Pinnacle Mountain is the ideal place. The recreation area at the base of the mountain has shaded picnic tables, grills, water, a playground, rest rooms, and a large, open air pavilion with a cooking fireplace and tables. The pavilions (one located at the base of the mountain and the other along the Big Maumelle River) are a favorite place for get-togethers and can be reserved for a fee. For those wishing to play outdoor games an open, grassy field is available.

If you enjoy hiking or mountain biking, it’s certain you’ll enjoy the trails offered at Pinnacle Mountain State Park, from the breathtaking view at the mountain's summit to the meandering flood plain of the paved, barrier-free Kingfisher Trail.

Fishing, canoeing, and boating are favorite pastimes on the Big and Little Maumelle Rivers. Boat ramps and a fishing pier allow ready access to these streams. Look on our events calendar for guided floats.
