Pico Rivera Library

9001 Mines Avenue
Pico Rivera, CA 90660

562-942-7394

History:

Founded in 1917, the current building (the only circular library in the County) was constructed in 1961; this was just three years after the cities of Pico and Rivera joined together to incorporate as the city of Pico Rivera. It is the larger of the two libraries serving the city and provides support services for two smaller libraries in the unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County.

Collection:

The collection contains approximately 79,028 books, as well as 84 newspapers and magazines. It also offers more than 7,500 audiovisual items, including cassettes, CDs, videos and books-on-tape. There is a substantial large print collection. Additionally, the library has a growing collection of Spanish language materials — books, magazines, and audiovisual items — both for children and adults. Local users of the library have access to the County of Los Angeles' entire collection of more than 7,000,000 items through our automated request system.

Services:

The library offers a full range of services including readers' advisory; reference; children's programs (school visits, library visits, monthly theme programs and a Summer Reading Program); and a Literacy Center where adults can improve their reading ability in either English or Spanish. In addition, a coin-operated copy machine and typewriter are available for public use.

Facilities:

Conveniently located near City government offices, community service buildings, schools and parks, the library has a physical area of 7,700 square feet. Its unique circular construction allows for separate adult, children, and audiovisual areas with a comfortable reading lounge located in the center of the building. There is a large parking lot just east of the facility with public telephones placed at the entrance. A 24-hour bookdrop is located curbside in front of the building.
