This trail follows the Little North Santiam River at its lower extent then turns and follows Opal Creek heading to the south. The trail meanders along-side the creeks through old-growth fir stands. The trail climbs along Opal Creek eventually reaching Cedar Flats where there are several awe-inspiring old-growth cedar trees.
Camping near and walking on the roots of the cedars hurts the trees; please try to limit your impacts to the trees.
This trail has difficult footing and steep pitches in places. It travels on the east side of Opal Creek from the bridge at Opal Pool to the end at Cedar Flats. It follows Forest Service Road 2209 for 1/4 mile.
The trail crosses Flume Creek at a picturesque waterfall location.
