About Us:
The mission of the Oconee River Land Trust is to conserve natural lands to protect water quality, preserve wildlife habitats, and enhance the quality of our lives and those of future generations.
History:
Since its inception in 1993, ORLT has preserved 26,000 acres on over 110 different conservation easements, ranging from the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains to the sandy soils of the longleaf pine country and on to the coastal wetlands. ORLT conservation easements can be found in these Georgia counties: Baldwin, Barrow, Bibb, Butts, Chatham, Cherokee, Clarke, Coweta, Effingham, Emanuel, Franklin, Fulton, Hancock, Heard, Jackson, Jasper, Jones, Madison, Meriwether, Monroe, Morgan, Newton, Oconee, Oglethorpe, Spalding, and Walton.
ORLT is a 501(c)(3) and has been accredited since 2009 by the Land Trust Accreditation Commission, demonstrating that we are committed to excellence by adopting Land Trust Standards and Practices, the ethical and technical guidelines for the responsible operation of land trusts, and meeting the accreditation requirements drawn from them.
