Oak Harbor Golf Club is an 18-hole championship layout worthy of its critical acclaim, rated 4.5 Stars by "Golf Digestaces to Play." Since it’s opening in 1992, Oak Harbor has quickly earned a reputation for excellence in course conditioning and dedication to personal service. The Lee Schmitt design is reminiscent of many Pete Dye courses and indeed Lee was one of their top designers. That means generous landing areas framed by mounds, native grasses, lakes and green framed by railroad ties. Every hole offers the player a new challenge with plenty of risk reward holes to make or break your round.
6885 yards from the back tees, 6221 from the white this par 72, layout is for sure a thinkers course, one where strategy and shot making play a greater part than mare distance from the tee. Highlights include the 167, yard 7th and 174, yard, par 3, 15th where both have a tee shot over water to a large green framed by railroad ties.
From the par 4 holes the 8th and the 18th stand out at 479 and 444 yards respectively especially when the have water down the side. The four par fives all offer a chance of birdie as none is so long that a wedge will not be in your hands for your third, while a couple are reachable. The risk of hitting it two must be weighed however with the water, traps and mounds guarding the greens. All in all, the course is a challenging yet fun round of golf. Come on out and see for yourself why Oak Harbor is the most talked about layout in the Deep South!
