About Us:
Northern Flow Vineyards was established in 2015 by Phil DeLuke. Drawing upon two decades of horticultural experience and a passion for fine wine, Phil planted his first vineyards in 2012. After completing a comprehensive winemaking program at nearby Jefferson Community College, he began making his first wines. The next few years were spent honing his craft. In May of 2016 Phil opened the doors to his winery and tasting room located on the premises of DeLuke’s Garden Center in Clayton. Accolades soon followed. Northern Flow took first place in the 2016 New York Wine and Food Classic Competition for its very first Marquette vintage, bottled in 2015. Northern Flow Vineyards is small by design, placing the focus on making the best possible wines with the kind of care and attention to detail that goes hand in hand with small batch production.
Northern Flow Vineyards is a small farm winery situated along the St. Lawrence River in the Thousand Islands region of Northern New York, about a two hours’ drive north of the Finger Lakes. It’s an exciting time for winemaking in the Thousand Islands. Recently, researchers at the University of Minnesota have developed new cold-hardy grape varieties bred to withstand extreme winters. These new hybrid grapes are resilient enough to thrive in Northern New York. Clay-rich soil helps retain moisture during dry summers and granite, limestone, and other minerals provide essential micronutrients. The resulting wines are lively and typically have a moderate acidity which accounts for a characteristic vibrancy and brightness perfect for food pairing. Northern Flow Vineyards is proud to offer these varietal wines which are among the newest in the world.
