NorthBay Medical Center began in 1956 when community leaders from Fairfield and Vacaville initiated a fund drive to build a hospital that would service families throughout upper Solano County. The 32-bed, non-profit Intercommunity Memorial Hospital opened its doors in 1960, and in 1977, our community's growth sparked the construction of a new health care facility.

NorthBay Medical Center expanded to 108 beds in 1979 and added a Newborn Intensive Care Unit in 1985. In 1992, an addition to NorthBay Medical Center opened its door that included a larger maternity department featuring labor/deliver/recovery rooms (LDRs), a larger Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and a state-of-the-art critical care unit, bringing us to our current 132-bed capacity. In 1983, the need for a hospital in Vacaville became apparent. In July 1987, 50-bed VacaValley Hospital was opened following a $1.2 million community fund-raising project.

NorthBay Medical Center is part of the non-profit, community-based NorthBay Healthcare System.
