In 1984, Scott courted Laurie on our first date with a dried flower bouquet from his first harvest. Ten months later, we were married and actively planning a future of growing plants together!
We began with our own home perennial gardens and then a dried flower farm. For 15 years, Laurie created dried flower wreaths and bouquets, and together we pressed flowers and created window suncatchers. We marketed these creations at east coast craft shows and farmers' markets.
During the last 5 years of the dried flower business, we found that with 4 children it had become difficult to keep going away to craft shows, so we began transitioning into our current Southern Vermont business of perennials, trees, and shrubs. With the opening of our retail perennial and nursery farm in Rockingham, Vermont in 1999, our hearts felt full in ways we had never imagined!
Growing and selling plants continues to be deeply fulfilling. Through this business, we have discovered the joy of connecting with people by swapping “love stories” about plants and their care! We have met so many wonderful, fascinating people; in addition to growing plants, Morning Star Perennials and Nursery has grown many friendships!
