By 2014, the popularity of electronic music in America and the global explosion of festivals created a different context for Moogfest: no longer was the music festival a sufficient platform for experimentation and conversation. To complement the nighttime performances, a technology conference was added to the program, bridging the divide between engineering and artistry.
Moogfest was proud to take its place in 2016 as a landmark cultural event at the center of North Carolina’s Research Triangle, a technological hub anchored by North Carolina State University, Duke University, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Durham is among the fastest growing and most exciting cities in the country, built on a unique blend of diversity, authenticity, world class innovation, and culture. The city has reinvented itself from tobacco to tech, and is one of the only cities in the country to boast $1 billion in tech exits, 200-plus startups and a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Home to Merge Records, the Marsalis Family, and one of the nation’s most respected jazz programs at North Carolina Central University, Durham’s music scene continues to evolve and grow as new venues, hotels and restaurants open alongside existing theaters, clubs, galleries and alternative performance spaces.
Moogfest is collaborating with the public and private sectors, locally and internationally, to create a festival experience that is expansive, inclusive and truly inspirational.
