Open: Year-round
Monks Gate vineyard is the focal point of our 50 acre farm located in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA of Oregon's northern Willamette Valley. In searching for our retirement venture of getting back to the land, we were drawn to the northern Willamette Valley's maritime climate of cool nights and warm dry summer days and, of course, the area's reputation for production of luscious Pinot Noir wines!
Our property abutts property owned by the nearby Trappist Abbey. These neighbors were very helpful to us in our land clearing efforts and, yes, there is a gate, complete with a statute of Saint Francis of Assisi, that we put in to give the Monks access to the lands of this farm that they had, for years, traversed.
The vineyard site ranges in elevation from 260 to 440 feet on predominantly south to southwest slopes. The soil type is Willakenzie, a silty clay loam over siltstone. The vineyard is not irrigated and is farmed sustainably to ensure that it will be environmentally and economically viable for generations to come.
