Mitchell State Park is a popular camping, fishing and boating destination. The park is situated between Lake Mitchell and Lake Cadillac and provides an excellent opportunity to view a variety of wildlife. A historic canal connects the two lakes and runs directly through the park.
Activities:
Boat Rental: Boat rentals are provided by Friends of Mitchell State Park. All proceeds go to the friends group for projects and programs to benefit Mitchell State Park. Kayaks and stand-up paddleboards are available for rent and use on Cadillac and Mitchell Lakes. Hours vary by season. Call Mitchell State Park for more details, 231-775-7911.

Fishing: Lakes Mitchell and Cadillac are noted as fine walleye fisheries. The 1,150-acre Lake Cadillac is an extremely popular attraction and anglers can expect good catches of perch, walleye, panfish and bass. The quarter-mile canal that connects the two lakes is a popular place for children to shore fish in the park and in the evening, many fish for bullheads.
Hiking: The Heritage Nature Trail starts at the Carl T. Johnson Hunting and Fishing Center and is about two and a half miles in length. The trail is actually a study area that supports a variety of plants and wildlife, including whitetail deer, wild turkeys, beavers, great blue heron and other species of waterfowl. The trail is mostly a woodchip path with bridges and boardwalks for an easy hike around the wetland areas.
