Mill Pond Park, at 54 acres, is the largest of the Saline community parks. It remains an ever-popular destination in the city, hosting a multitude of events each year. The park is located on the north side of Michigan Avenue, directly across from Curtiss Park. Entrance to the park is gained from the corner of Bennett Street and Mill Road, near to Houghton Elementary School, via an extension of Bennett Street or a pedestrian path. Mill Pond Park features its own 68-spot parking lot, ample space for most functions.
Park amenities include open and wooded areas, a boat launch for motor-less boating; a pavilion, which may be rented for events, with electricity and ADA accessible restrooms; a number of soccer fields; many nature trails; a one-acre dog park; the enormous ROMP (Recreate Our Mill Pond Park) play structure; picnic areas, including on-site grills; a plethora of benches throughout the park; and a sizeable boulder, often painted by residents for announcements.
The many features of Mill Pond Park provide ample opportunities for relaxation and enjoyment. Take a stroll along the nature trails, fish the Saline River, go canoeing, have a picnic, host an event at the pavilion, go sledding and cross-country skiing, or take the dog out for a walk.
