Mission:
A literate populace and the freedom to read are essential to democracy. The Virginia Beach Public Library provides free access to accurate and current information and materials to all individuals and promotes reading as a critical life skill.
Vision:
The Virginia Beach Public Library is in the lifelong learning business. We recognize that an individual's capacity for lifelong learning begins even before birth and continues through one's lifetime. Therefore, the entire community and each individual within it are our customers. The library is not only a source of information, knowledge and learning but is also a forum for "self-education, progress, self-help, autonomy, liberation, empowerment and self-determination."
