Mission:

The Metrowest Symphony Orchestra’s mission is to provide high quality programs of established symphonic repertoire, enriched by contemporary works and other artistic disciplines for the enjoyment and education of both its members and the Metrowest community.

This talented blend of professional and volunteer musicians is dedicated to entertaining, educating and encouraging the audiences of today and tomorrow.

History:

The orchestra that was to become the Metrowest Symphony Orchestra (MSO) began in Framingham in 1973. The group then rehearsed in and presented concerts in the auditorium of the Framingham Civic League.

In 1980, the musicians were invited to Marlborough by then Mayor Joseph Ferrecchia and the Office of Cultural Affairs. The following year the orchestra was incorporated and for 22 years the group was known as the Greater Marlborough Symphony Orchestra (GMSO).

In 2002, the organization changed its name to the Metrowest Symphony Orchestra to better reflect the population it serves. The orchestra’s musicians are members of the Boston Metrowest communities from all walks of life, who play for the sake of the communities, their love of the arts, and the enrichment of the Metrowest communities.

In 2007, the orchestra moved again, this time to become a Symphony in Residence at Hopkinton High School, through an agreement with the Hopkinton school system and the Hopkinton Chamber of Commerce.

Since 2015, the orchestra has rehearsed at Golden Pond Assisted Living in Hopkinton and performs its concerts at Keefe Technical High School in Framingham.

Our programs have been supported in part, past and present, by grants from the local cultural councils of Framingham, Holliston, Hopkinton, Wayland, Southborough, and Ashland, each a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
