Mission

The Metropolitan Youth Orchestra of Huntsville provides for the artistic and educational development of young people within the North Alabama and Metropolitan Huntsville region by offering quality orchestral and other diverse musical experiences which enrich the cultural environment of our community.

About Us

About two hundred promising young musicians from the North Alabama and South Tennessee area make up the membership of the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra of Huntsville, or METRO, as it is informally known. Now with over fifteen seasons, this growing educational organization has delighted audiences with exciting orchestral programming - Baroque to contemporary, classical to jazz - all educational and entertaining to performers and listeners alike!

Membership in METRO is divided into four different performing organizations, according to playing experience and ability. Young beginning string students enroll for their first orchestral experience in the Debut Strings. The three other orchestral divisions which perform year-round are the Prelude Orchestra, the Repertory Orchestra, and the Symphonic Orchestra. All three full-year orchestral divisions present three subscription concerts annually. In addition to the subscription series, the orchestras perform at Huntsville's "Panoply of the Arts" festival each year, and present concerts in area and regional schools annually in the spring.
