About Us:

We provide public library service to urban metropolitan Jackson and Hinds County Mississippi, the state capital. Our goal is to provide quality service through the joint efforts of the Administrative Board of Trustees, a staff of one hundred employees, the Friends of the Library, and continued support of the City of Jackson and the Hinds County Board of Supervisors.

The system serves the metro area with 14 branches and one central library. The Eudora Welty Library is named in honor of Pulitzer Prize winning author, Eudora Welty. It contains 200,000 volumes and the largest collection of reference materials and extensive works by Mississippi authors. Within the branch system, the Margaret Walker Alexander Library houses a special collection of African-American history. Named after Dr. Margaret Walker Alexander, award-winning author of Jubilee and other famous poetic works, the library, located near Jackson State University, offers numerous resources on the African-American heritage.
