Mission:
Our mission is preserve Meade County history, educate the public about it and encourage our young people to carry on our tradition of appreciation of our past.
About Us:
Dedicated to the preservation of the history of Meade County Kansas and featuring displays of our pioneer heritage, Native American heritage, major events, early day transportation, and small town businesses.
A self-guided tour through the Museum starts with prehistoric history, then archaeology and the Plains Indians. Next is information on the Lone Tree Massacre, one of the last Indian skirmishes which took place in Meade County.
A boardwalk down the east side of the Museum leads to a mercantile store, a sod house, a prairie kitchen, a barber shop, a parlor, a harness shop, blacksmith ship, early-day bedroom, and Rock Island Railroad station. We have a replica of an early jail, a livery stable with several wagons, a photographer's studio, early-day bank, one room school, and early-day church. Other walls are lined with cases of artifacts.
