About Us:

In 1898, a group of civic minded ladies fused together to form The Students’ Club. As a result of this group’s formation, the first public library in Maury County was opened in 1902 and called the “Reading Room.” From the humble beginnings of the Reading Room emerged what is now known as the Maury County Public Library System. With two branches (the main branch in Columbia and a subsidiary in Mt. Pleasant), the Maury County Public Library continues to provide free entertainment and enrichment to the people of Columbia, Tennessee and the county as a whole. The Students’ Club, who first founded the library so many years ago, continues to be one of the organization’s greatest supporters.

The Maury County Public Library was founded in 1902 by the Student's Club. After more than 100 years of service, the library still strives to serve the people of Maury County with all of their literary and informational needs.
