Matthew Turlington Photography

Matthew Turlington Photography, formerly known as Penumbra Gallery and Studio, is an art gallery and working studio. All of the artwork, including matting and framing, is produced by Matthew from start to finish in the studio. Work purchased through Fine Art America is printed by them. All work is of the highest quality and permanence.

Matthew is a North Carolina native who has lived in all regions of the state, from the mountains to the sea. After a long journey he decided to make Western North Carolina his permanent home.

Matthew received an Associate’s degree in commercial photography from James Sprunt Community College near the coast and a BFA in Fine Art Photography from Western Carolina University in the mountains of Cullowhee, NC. He then went on to Boulder, where he received an MFA in Photography and Electronic Media from the University of Colorado in 2002.

After three years in Colorado he decided to return to Western North Carolina, the area that felt most like home to him. Today you can find him at his permanent location, 274 Marsh Lily Drive in Sylva.
