Open: Year-round
Our winery is located in a beautiful area of Central Oregon at 15523 SW Hwy 97, Culver, Oregon. Couched between the beautiful rock formations of Smith Rock and seven peaks of the majestic Cascade Mountains, our visitors relax on our patio and lawn and soak up our views. Maragas Winery is the first winery in Jefferson County, Oregon and the first vineyard in Jefferson County, Oregon. Â We're the founding Winery and Vineyard of Central Oregon.
The microclimate at our Vineyard is suitable for several different northern European varietals and a multitude of hybrids. To compliment our own grape production we've encouraged and assisted other farmers in our area that have farms in different microclimates to grow additional grapes for our production. With this, we have established what is now recognized as the Central Oregon wine region.
Our Winery and Vineyard is permitted to enable the best customer experience. You can taste and purchase wines, savor our farm-to-table dinners, frolic at winery concerts and events, and celebrate your own wedding or private event. Our Winery has deeper roots in the winemaking world. The Maragas family has been making wine in the U.S. and Europe for Generations. The Maragas family began growing grapes and making wine in Crete, Greece for as long as anyone can remember. The family vineyard and olive grove in Crete is still owned and managed by cousins of the founder of Maragas Winery.
Anna Maragas operated the first wine business for our family in the United States beginning back in 1941. Anna lived to see the beginning of her Grandson's winery in 1999, Maragas Winery. Doug Maragas, Anna's Grandson founded and currently manages Maragas Winery. Greatly inspired by his Grandmother in the Agricultural trade and his mother, Joanne Lattavo, in the arts, Doug found a home for his dream. With all of the magic associated with growing a berry and making it into making wine, the creative world is the place for Doug. With homage to two of the most important mentors in his life, he practices the wine and agricultural skills he learned from his Grandmother and adorns the Maragas wine bottles with his mother's caricature art dating back to 1959.
