The Macrae Family Winery uses state of the art production techniques. We use Europress Vertical Basket Presses for the red wines to increase the quality of the juice at press time. The wine Chardonnay is crushed as whole clusters and all grapes are hand sorted. We use native yeasts in fermentation as much as possible. The wine is put into new and one year old French Barrels to impart flavor and texture to the wine. The Russian River Bacigalupi Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are in Barrel for one year and the Napa Cabernet Sauvignon and Napa Merlot are cellared for two years. Whenever possible we bottle unfiltered.
The wines are tasted and tested frequently to ensure their quality and then bottled as single vineyard designate wines reflecting the best of Russian River Bacigalupi and Napa Valley Stagecoach Vineyards. The wines are produced in limited quantities.
The Chardonnay is produced in a manner that reflects the clean crisp nature of Chardonnay and is not overly oaked. Russian River Chardonnay has a strong fruit forward nature and is slightly finty giving it a strong profile to go with the oak cellaring. The Pinot Noir retains the graceful light nature of this burgundian classic with complex flavors and ruby like color.
The Napa Merlot and Napa Cabernet are dense wines with strong flavors that represent the best that Napa Valley has to offer. The Napa Cabernet and Napa Merlot were also fermented in Open top fermenters as is done with the finest Pinot Noir. This process gives the fruit a more intense color.
