About Us
In 1732, John Mack came to Londonderry from Londonderry, Ireland with his new wife, Isabella Brown. The area, then known as Nutfield, contained a plot of land belonging to Matthew Thornton (later to sign the Declaration of Independence). The Macks settled, grew potatoes and other crops, raised cattle, and later, grew apples.
Today, Mack's Apples (also known as Moose Hill Orchards - that name is another story) is a farm of approximately 400 acres, and a 100 of those are just for apples. A terrific group of folks run the farm, and they're always ready to welcome you to Londonderry, home to four fine family-run apple farms, making it an epicenter of New Hampshire apple production. Here, you'll find some of the finest fruit in New England.
There is a wonderful farm stand to browse through, complete with beautiful apples, tree-ripe peaches, several varieties of pears, pumpkins, and squash, as well as local maple syrup, pies, and honey (to name a few things), and New Hampshire hospitality. You can pick your own apples in any of a number of different orchards, some with lookout platforms and picnic places. Mack's has upwards of 30 acres of pumpkins to pick, with fields planted close to every orchard... it makes for a completely fun Pick Your Own experience. Mack's Apples Pick Your Own has been twice selected as the People's Choice award winner in the Best of New Hampshire edition of New Hampshire Magazine.
Plan to join us for harvest! Fall is an amazing time in New Hampshire. The fields, the woods, and of course, the apples are beautiful. Mack's has hiking trails and nice places to picnic. By the way, be sure to bring your camera. The guys work pretty hard to keep the grounds nice... they get quite flattered when folks take pictures. There's fun fall contests, sampling, community events and of course, Mack's Annual Apple Pie Contest.
Spring through summer, while the gang is feverishly prepping orchards and fields, Mack's Ice Cream opens, with delicious, locally-made Richardson's Ice Cream.
Anytime of year, walk trails maintained by Londonderry Trailways - the trails even get groomed for cross country skiing in the winter.
So c'mon and see us! Stroll through the farm stand and experience the glorious smell and wonderous sight of a room filled with fine fruit. Find out how an apple tastes when the warmth of the sun is still in it. Have a picnic in a sleepy orchard. Watch for wildlife on our trails and by our ponds. Read the poems of our resident poet and picker, John Keating, while you stroll Poet's Prance. Join our active community at one of the countless events held here each year. There's always something happening at Mack's Apples! We look forward to meeting you!
