About As:

The Lowndes County Historical Society was founded in 1967 as a non-profit corporation, charged with preserving the history of Valdosta and Lowndes County. The Society has extensive collections of documents, photographs, and artifacts acquired by donations. The objective of the organization is to promote an interest in local history, to collect and preserve documents, pictures, and artifacts pertinent to our cultural heritage, to maintain a museum for the preservation and display of cultural objects to promote and encourage historical and genealogical research.

The archives are open to the public for use by researchers, interested persons, groups and organizations. The Society holds educational quarterly meetings. We hold an annual social event, and publish a monthly newsletter for the members.

The museum offers tours, including a slide show, to school groups and other interested people by appointment.
