The grand opening of the Lois Morgan Edwards Memorial Library in Marshville was on October 12, 2003. The Library officially opened to the public on October 17, 2003. Carroll Edwards, Marshville businessman, donated $500,000 to the county for construction of the building. He wanted it to be a memorial to his mother, Lois Morgan Edwards. Those funds augmented grants from Union County and the town of Marshville.

The Lois Morgan Edwards Memorial Library has 25,000 items, including books, DVDs, videos, books on tape and CD, young adult books, genealogy, CDs, CD-ROMs, magazines, newspapers and more. There are six computers for adults and six computers for children, in addition to four online public access computers. There are two study rooms, a genealogy area and a casual reading area with a fireplace.

The Lois Morgan Edwards Memorial Library serves Marshville, Wingate and eastern Union County.
