The Beginning:
An avid outdoorsman and wildlife enthusiast, John Georgius was drawn to the natural beauty and abundant wildlife of the Uwharrie region. In his mind, a recreational farm in this part of the country would be much like a small slice of heaven. The rolling fields, the house on the hill, and the white picket fence lining the entrance drive way were some of the many beautiful and unique features of the property. In the spring of 1991, Mr. Georgius purchased the farm with 330 acres. Since that time, the surrounding area of the farm has continued to expand with subsequent acquisitions and the property now totals approximately 1,400 acres.
HISTORY:
The Little River in Mt. Gilead is a tributary of the Great Pee Dee River. It’s been documented to host a number of rare aquatic animals, such as the Atlantic Pig Toe and Carolina Creek Shell Mussel. There is also an abundance of crayfish and crawdads in Little River, which are the inspiration behind our Crawdad Creek line. Little River is a gorgeous ribbon of water for paddling kayaks or canoes. Local outfitters have offered guided paddling trips in this area for years. Plan your trip to include our winery.
