Our Story:

We are local Grayslake. IL Dads, working, raising children and like many others- running to sports events with our kids. The sports are many - baseball, basketball, football, golf, lacrosse and of course hockey. Hockey, though, was the common thread that we all had in common. And so is quality beer.

As our kids grew older, we had more time to search for great beer. We have traveled all over, even to the Oktoberfest celebration in Munich, in search of great beer. Across the globe, we have used cars, trains, planes, taxis, busses, boats, shuttles, transfers and even a Rik-Shaw in our hunt for great beer.

Years ago in Europe, we "Dads" were at a pub and talking with a couple of local brew-masters. The conversation was memorable, lively and laughter was plentiful. Other locals started to join in and the group grew and grew. As more locals came into the conversation- we were introduced as "Colleagues" from Grayslake, Illinois. We liked being called "Colleagues", even better than "Dads".

After years of R&D, we "Colleagues" started to brew our own beer. Our very first beer was a Red Ale. In our love for hockey, we decided to name it "Red Line Ale" (for non-hockey folks the red line is the center line on the rink). We continued to brew, refine and brew again and eventually brewed other types of beer. Each of our beers is attached with a hockey term. Please keep the suggestions coming!

With the support of our wives, we incorporated under the business name of "Colleagues of Beer" and now are proud to open "Light The Lamp Brewery". Where does "Light The Lamp" come from? - it's about the goal light that goes on after a goal is scored in hockey.

We hope you can visit our brewery and enjoy our beer as much as we enjoy brewing it.
