History:

In 1984, a citizen committee was organized to determine how College Station could develop library services. Larry Ringer, who later became mayor, chaired the committee. Bryan and College Station signed an interlocal governmental contract in 1986 for Bryan to operate a branch library in College Station. In 1987, The College Station branch library opened in a storefront location. Circulation soon increased, and patrons demanded more services.

In 1989, a second citizen committee was organized, this time for the building of a new library. When the bond passed in 1995, construction began on a 16,000 sq ft library. The new College Station Public Library opened on March 12, 1998, and circulation promptly doubled.

On Sept. 23, 2004, the College Station City Council renamed this library to honor Larry J. Ringer, former mayor of College Station, for his instrumental role in establishing a library in College Station.
