Activities and recreation:

Hiking

There are several opportunities for hiking on nature trails, dune cordwalks or along the Lake Michigan shoreline at Kohler-Andrae.

Camping

Family campground
The park has a 137-unit family campground, including 52 sites with electrical hookups. Each campsite has a campfire ring and a picnic table and can accommodate a limit of six people or one family (parents and minor children plus two guests). Each site is limited to one wheeled camping unit and two vehicles which must be parked on the paved drive. Off-site parking for additional vehicles is available.

In addition, a canvas and pole tepee is available for rent in the summer for those who do not have their own camping equipment or who want the experience of camping in a primitive shelter.

The campground is open all year. During the warm weather season, showers, flush toilet and laundry facilities are available in the family campground. Campsites do not have water or sewer hookups, but a trailer dump station and a fresh water fill-up station are available in the park. Family Campsites 3, 7, 8, 15, 17, 18, 19, 22, 24 and 28 along with Group sites A & B will have snow plowed for winter camping.

Group campground
There are two group campsites with a combined capacity of 50 people. Only tents are allowed in this area. Vault toilets are provided.

Picnicking and shelters
There are several areas for picnicking at the park. Two shelters are available for reservations.

Bicycling
Bicycles are allowed on all park roads. Please use caution as roads are heavily traveled. Off-road bikers are allowed on the Black River Trail.

Horseback riding
Horses are allowed on the Black River Trail.

Boating, canoeing and kayaking
There is not a boat launch at the park. Users of small watercraft or floatation devices should be aware of the wind conditions on Lake Michigan. Strong west winds can blow watercraft away from the shoreline. Parents, watch your children at all times. Rubber rafts and other boats require personal floatation devices.

Swimming
Swimming is available in Lake Michigan. Please use caution. No lifeguards are present.

Fishing

Fishing is available at the fishing pond off Old Park Road. An accessible trail circles the pond. Fishing licenses apply.

Hunting and trapping
Hunting and trapping are allowed in the open areas of the park during the Wisconsin state parks hunting and trapping time frame. Trapping is not permitted in closed areas as noted on the park hunting map or within 100 yards of any designated use area, including trails. Certain trap types are restricted on state park properties.

Cross-country skiing
Enjoy the park during winter by cross-country skiing. Cross-country skiing is available on a marked one-way trail. The two-mile ski trail has flat to gentle slopes and takes you through a variety of beautiful environments. The trail starts in the picnic area and travels through the wooded southern campground. It then hooks up to the Woodland Dunes Nature Trail and later loops through the picnic area back to the beginning. The trail is groomed regularly when snow conditions and weather permit. Pets are not permitted on ski trails at any time.

All trails are one way. Please follow the signs and arrows on the ski trail for your safety and others. Ski within your ability and always leave enough space between you and other skiers.

Snowshoeing
There is a marked snowshoe trail at the park. Additional snowshoeing is available at the 2.5-mile Black River Trail and throughout the park. Snowshoeing is not allowed on the groomed ski trail.
