Kingsport Birding Trail

Kingsport, TN 37660

Whether you are a first time bird watcher or a seasoned 'birder' the Kingsport Birding Trail, or KBT, is a fun and convenient way to explore some of east Tennessee's richest natural treasures. This KBT brochure provides "at a glance" information and depictions of Kingsport's highly accessible natural resources. Follow the map to a bird viewing area of your choice and enjoy a colorful display of interesting bird activity. Plenty of parking is available along the KBT and each location offers scenic beauty.

Several sites are nestled within the developed urban area which gives example of natural outdoor activity areas and the built environment not only coexisting but mutually benefiting from one another. Other sites vary from rural to mountain top outpost. Our linear park, the Kingsport Greenbelt, hosts five KBT stops.

When by the Holston River be sure to keep an eye on the sky for soaring Bald Eagles which have nested and fledged young eaglets in Kingsport for several years. The successful Bald Eagle nest and fledglings attest to the high quality of the local watershed. Kingsport has recorded many rare bird occurrences including: White Pelican, Snowy Egret, Red-necked Grebe, Greater White-fronted Goose, and Lark Sparrow. Even if a rare bird doesn't cross your path while visiting the KBT you are sure to enjoy a wide diversity of beautiful birds and other wildlife. You may learn the odd sound of a White-breasted Nuthatch call or see a Belted Kingfisher plunge headfirst into a stream or pond.

There is no shortage of exciting sights and sounds along the KBT. Binoculars and a bird field guide may enhance your viewing and identifying effort but they are not required to have a great trip afield. Why not visit the KBT today and see what you've been missing?
