The Killbuck Valley of Wayne Holmes and Coshocton counties encompasses a rich geological, biological, archaeological and historical heritage. It shall be the mission of the Killbuck Historical Society to foster awareness, appreciation and preservation of that heritage through a strong program of exhibits and educational outreach operations for children and adults, based in the Killbuck Valley Museum.
To this end, the Society shall endeavor to collect, preserve, and exhibit for public education and enjoyment, items that relate to the natural and human history of this area. These items shall include artifacts, specimens, photographs, records, etc. that are relevant to the geology, archaeology, zoology, botany and human prehistory and history of the Killbuck Valley area, as well as other fields which may contribute to our understanding of the natural history and human culture of this area.
In fulfilling it's mission, the Society will maintain, operate, and support as a public museum the Killbuck Valley Museum, located on Front Street in Killbuck, Ohio. In addition, the Society will endeavor to disseminate information concerning the natural history and human prehistory and the history of the Killbuck Valley by (1) inviting qualified individuals to speak on various aspects of these subjects at it's meetings, (2) making museum exhibit materials and texts available to area schools in outreach programs, (3) sponsoring, cooperatively as feasible, conferences and workshops on specific relevant subjects, and (4) publishing information on related topics in it's quarterly Newsletter and, as feasible in area media.
The Society will also cooperate with local and state historical and genealogical societies and museums in collecting and preserving materials of local, state and national significance, so that these materials can be made available for study by scholars and students
