Our History:

Now entering it’s 20th year, the Kilgore Film Festival grew out of a relationship between Kilgore College and it’s then public radio station, KTPB. The radio station manager was a film buff who felt that moviegoers in East Texas were not being given the opportunity to enjoy some of the more specialized independent and foreign language films being shown in “ fine art” theatres in Dallas and other cities. In 1988 the station manager and the 4 Star Cinema management jointly launched what was then called the KTPB Film Festival as a venture intended to compliment the stations programming while expanding the variety of filmed entertainment being offered in East Texas. The concept caught on with the public and the Festival grew into a much anticipated twice yearly event in the Spring & Fall. With the eventual sale of the radio station by the college, the festival’s name was changed to the Kilgore Film Festival and it continues to offer exceptional films under the direction of the original 4 Star Cinema management.
