The Jefferson Branch of the Detroit Public Library was opened in rented quarters on Warren Avenue, September 27, 1937, as the East Warren branch. The library moved to it's present location on East Outer Drive, October 4, 1951, the first National Library Day. It is named for the author of the Declaration of Independence and the third President of the United States, Thomas Jefferson.

The library provides services for all ages, including books, magazines, videos, audio cassettes, and Internet access. Services include income tax forms January through April, student financial aid forms, computers for public use, core collection of Career & Employment Information Center materials, and a copy machine.
