Mission Statement
The Jane Addams Hull-House Museum serves as a dynamic memorial to Jane Addams, the work of her associates, and the neighborhood they served. The museum embodies UIC's urban land grant commitment by preserving and developing the original Hull-House site for the interpretation and continuation of the historic settlement house vision, linking research, education, and social engagement.
To fulfill this mission, the museum:
- Collects and preserves materials and artifacts relating to the history of Jane Addams, the Hull-House settlement, the settlement house residents, and the Near West Side neighborhood in which Hull-House was located
- Preserves and makes accessible to the public two original Hull-House buildings
- Supports and promotes scholarly debate and research on Hull-House, its founders, and their historical context
- Supports and promotes scholarship on contemporary activities that share in the Hull-House legacy
- Interprets information related to Hull-House and its legacy through exhibitions, educational programing, electronic media, publications, and community outreach projects
- Serves as a facility supporting interdisciplinary work in all areas of the University related to Hull-House's historic settlement-house mission.
