About Us

Indian Springs Winery is announcing the closing of its' doors, coming in early June 2013! Dennis Ball, who started building his vineyards in back in 1983, is ready to retire and begin enjoying the fruits of his successful endeavors.Dennis started his vineyard creation with 112 acres, clearing brush, removing boulders, and dealing with a wide range of soil types. These were the 'shovel in the dirt' beginnings. His desire and determination led to success, and in 2001 he started the second vineyards, doubling the size of his plantings.Meanwhile, in 1995, Indian Springs Tasting Room, created by Dennis and Julie Holmes, opened on Broad Street in Nevada City. The winery evolved into a "must see" stop, and produced several events to support local non-profit organizations, as well as elegant wine receptions for area artists. In this warm environment, and over the years, the staff has become like family. In this case, quoting from Shakespeare, "parting is such sweet sorrow".

Dennis' growing and vineyard management practices attracted lucrative contracts with several of Napa and Sonoma County's best wineries. This early success helped to re-establish Nevada County's wine heritage as an integral part of California's wine industry. Indian Springs Vineyards were created in harmony with world - renowned winemaker Jed Steele. Among many national and international competitions, Indian Springs has garnered numerous awards."It is with some excitement and sadness that we are announcing our retirement. We will be closing our doors in mid June. We have had a fabulous run, but it is time for us to say good-bye! We will miss our dear friends that we have come to know through the years. We will also miss our amazing staff, who we view as our extended family. We would like to thank them for all the years of friendship and service. We would like to also thank you, our loyal customers, for your support all these years. We look forward to seeing you around town!!"
